Minneapolis, MN (December 8, 2006): Televisa
has officially launched its new digital entertainment services
platform, which includes Live TV, video-on-demand (VOD), and music
download features provided through the EsMas player, a desktop
application developed by J. River. A soft launch has already
resulted in 1.5 million downloads of the player since its
introduction in August.
Televisa, the Mexico-based media giant, provides
premium television programming to a worldwide audience and offers
sports, news, music, and ever-popular soap operas called Telenovelas.
The new digital initiative is based on empowering the audience with
control over content and a more interactive experience.
Live TV offers instant Internet access to Televisa
channels, including replay of programming for the previous 14 days.
VOD feature includes free previews and a download-to-own option for
films and TV programs. Videos utilize a advanced streaming
technology to maximize bandwidth availability, and provide instant
feeds in high quality. The music service has over 400,000 tracks
available for download in the protected Windows Media format.
“This is a dramatically new offering from Televisa,”
said Jim Hillegass, CEO at J. River, “It is an unmatched combination
of digital entertainment options in an intuitive package with world
class programming.”
Anyone can download and try the music and video
services, but subscriptions are currently limited to Mexican
residents. A free download of the player is available at
www.tarabu.com.
